Another gorgeous mago made and painted by Djaworla. This one is adorned with rarrk cross-hatching throughout of designs possibly relating to country. Djaworla is in his late 40s and has been making mago for over 10 years. His style remains unaffected by outside influences, with instruments of simple rustic construction that are typically painted with elaborate yam motifs or repeating cross-hatched designs. His ochres are characteristically thick and not fixed with a binder.

This is a nice sounding mago with moderate backpressure and excellent richness to its acoustics.

This is a special yidaki with its Wurramu-like appearance, Wurramu being Yirritja religious wooden carvings that represent the Manggatharra (Macassan) legacy. It is the first of its kind we have come across.

A yidaki with thick syrupy acoustics and standout bass tongued-accents, this stick would appeal to the astute collector/trad player looking for a great stick to play as well as something a bit different. Wurramu figures typically sell for many thousands of dollars (Google Minburra's fellow Warramiri clansman 'Terry Yumbulul' to see what we mean).

A particularly well-made instrument combining the thunderous acoustics of Galpu yidaki with sensitive responsiveness of the tongue. This stick is a little more voluminous than most of the other offerings by Gaypalani giving it tremendous depth and bass response.

With a natural mouthpiece of 32-34 mm, we've reduced the diameter to 29-30 mm with cement-like sugarbag from the Yirritja Niwuda bee so that this stick plays even better than when we recorded Marrilaga doing his thing.

Superb conical bore, classic mago voice, unique chevron-shaped painted designs... this is yet another kick-arse stick. Burduwal has really extended himself with these 10 special sticks, if we weren't constantly pinching ourselves, we'd be sure it was all a dream.

Amazing to look at, exciting to play, appealing to the touch... these are all painstakingly hand-crafted instruments that display old world rustic charm of yesteryears. We're extremely proud of Burduwal for what he has achieved and his adherence to age-old techniques and know-how.

This is an excellent mago made and painted at Malworn outstation near Oenpelli in Western Arnhem Land, the first proper Kunwinjku instrument we've had that is fully-decorated in ochres. And what a stunning mago! Namarnyilk has depicted expressive Mimih (or Mimi) spirit figures with dilly bags, perhaps in the act of dancing, their heads arching skyward.

The instrument itself is remarkably resonant with excellent acoustics for the Kun-borrk style of play endemic to Western Arnhem Land. This is the only instrument we have from the talented Namarnyilk, don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind mago!

An old and well-made mago with a slightly tapering bore providing good backpressure. Acoustics are strong and well-balanced. The bottom part of the instrument looks to be painted with an esoteric flying fox design.

Natural bore throughout, ochre painted, no air leaks, comfortable size mouthpiece with no wax needed, this is a nice old instrument immediately different to today's commercial offerings.

A superlative mago made by the greatest mago craftsman alive, Bob Burduwal. This instrument was used at the June 2010 "Meet the Stars" Masterclass where Raymond Marpin taught the finer points of mago playing to his students.

Outstanding acoustic characteristics combined with beaut backpressure, this is an exceptional stick - we can highly recommend it as a stand-out mago.

A sassy mago playing in a deeper key of D. This instrument has a beautiful resonance with a full-bodied throaty voice. What we like about this stick is that it has a bit of bite and a bit of a kick to it, something we don't often come across in a 'D' mago. Ochre-decorated throughout like the other 9 commissioned mago.

Watching Burduwal hunt for mago in his outstation provides great comparative material for those more accustomed to yirdaki crafting in eastern Arnhem Land, wonderful stuff if you're interested in ecology, ethno-arts, woodworking etc.
