There are also high-quality MP3 sound clips for those who need to listen carefully to an instrument's voice before deciding on a purchase. Some audio files are not yet uploaded, but in the meanwhile you can hear and see the instruments being played in our YouTube video clips.

A superlative mago made by the greatest mago craftsman alive, Bob Burduwal. This instrument was used at the June 2010 "Meet the Stars" Masterclass where Raymond Marpin taught the finer points of mago playing to his students.

Outstanding acoustic characteristics combined with beaut backpressure, this is an exceptional stick - we can highly recommend it as a stand-out mago.

A sassy mago playing in a deeper key of D. This instrument has a beautiful resonance with a full-bodied throaty voice. What we like about this stick is that it has a bit of bite and a bit of a kick to it, something we don't often come across in a 'D' mago. Ochre-decorated throughout like the other 9 commissioned mago.

Watching Burduwal hunt for mago in his outstation provides great comparative material for those more accustomed to yirdaki crafting in eastern Arnhem Land, wonderful stuff if you're interested in ecology, ethno-arts, woodworking etc.

Collected in the 1970s at Elcho Island by mission horticulturalist and mechanic, said to be made by a Willy Gurwiwi which I am almost certain is Djalu Gurruwiwi. A scorcher of a mago playing in E flat fundamental with grunt and fireworks. This is a serious instrument for anyone passionate about the Kun-borrk style of play of which Darryl is the leading practitioner. Though Darryl is not 100% (having had a near-fatal heart attack in March 2009), his playing is still rock steady, goodonya Darryl!

The artwork on this and the other 9 mago specially commissioned from Burduwal are bold and innovative in line with Burduwal's appeal and recognition among collectors for his cutting edge work in fibrecrafts.
